Activity execution
Let's dive in!
Here are the things you need:
Material | Quantity | Dimension/ size/weight (if applicable) | Alternative (if applicable) |
Balloon | 1 | standard | - |
Jar | 1 | Glass | - |
Straw | 1 | Small | - |
Tape | 1 | Standard | Double sided tape |
Paperclip | 2 | standard | - |
Scissor | 1 | - | - |

STEP 1: Take a balloon and cut the opening of the balloon. Like this.
STEP 2: Stretch the opening of the balloon and wrap it around the jar.
STEP 3: Take a paperclip and straighten one of its end.
STEP 4: Fix the other end in a straw. Like this:
STEP 5: Cut the straw in half.
STEP 6: Stick this straw to the balloon.
STEP 7: Attach the other end of tape to the center of the balloon on the jar.
STEP 8: Measure the height from the wire of the paperclip to the end of the jar.
*Take this barometer outside!
If the pointer on the scale moves upwards, that means the pressure in the surrounding is less than the pressure inside the jar. Similarly, if the pointer moves down that means the pressure inside the jar is less than the outside!
How cool!
