A speedy shelter consists of sheets of fabric or other material draped over, attached to a frame of poles or attached to a supporting rope. While smaller tents may be free-standing or attached to the ground.

The soil hunt!

Our astronauts will have a few tasks, such as taking Martian soil samples and then analyzing them. To check how acidic the soil is, or they might be given the task to add fertilizers to the soil. Therefore our astronauts will be moving to several different places to collect these samples. This is why a speedy shelter will come handy as it is efficient and easy to set up anywhere to provide shelter.

These shelters and tents were used at least as far back as the early iron age. The Roman Army used leather tents, copies of which have been used successfully by modern camping tents. Various styles were developed over time, some derived from traditional nomadic tents, such as the yurt.
